Treatment is defined by how you build a relationship with the person that comes to seek some guidance and compassion. People are not immediately ready for extensive questioning and tons of paperwork to complete. As a clinician, we must develop some trust and look towards getting them through today. It's time to demonstrate care that happens when you work within the needs of your client and understand what they can do or want to address while engaged in treatment. We are programmed to prioritize the insurance carrier we are billing or the agency that is employing us. What happened to putting our clients first since they are the ones seeking acts of kindness and some words of encouragement that will keep their hopes from disappearing. There must be a change in how we balance our responsibilities to others, but not forgetting the key to this equation is the person who is placing their emotional well-being in our hands for the moment.
